ABOUT

About

What can I provide?

Massage/Physio/Pilates

Various day and evening slots available to suit your needs, please get in touch for availability

I am a Chartered Physiotherapist, qualified Sports Massage Therapist and Physiotherapy Pilates teacher with a special interest and background in outdoor and adventure sports.

I have a love of adventure which has seen me enjoy a range of outdoor activities that fuel my passion to help others achieve their goals within these sports. I am also a climbing/skiing and outdoor education instructor.

All of this has led me to a good understanding of the specific effects these activities have on the body, and the required form to be successful within them.

I offer both Physiotherapy and Sports Massage. With 6 years clinical experience, I can offer a comprehensive and personalised functional assessment, targeted treatment and rehabilitation advice and exercises to help you achieve your goals.

You may have a good idea already of what the main differences are and what you would like from the session. For those that aren’t sure I’ve put together a brief guide to highlight the main differences.

I tend to tailor it to what you would most like to get out of it and often this ends up as a combination! The way I see it, tell me how I can help and I’ll call on whichever combination of my skills and experience will help you get the best result!

Physiotherapy and Sports Massage

What does it involve?

Physiotherapy

Initial assessment is 60 minutes and starts with a thorough history taking chat which allows me to hone in on a targeted physical assessment to provide you with the best and safest treatment for your goals. Physiotherapy treatment varies depending on each individual but draws on elements of rehabilitative exercise including Pilates and Clinical Yoga as well as Sports Massage and bodywork techniques as needed. I will always aim to empower you with the knowledge and skills to progress and thrive.

Sports Massage

Sports Massage sessions tend to focus on more global goals such as functional assessments rather than acute injury for example typical muscle imbalance patterns found in specific sports such as running and cycling or for to minimise joint and muscle tightness that could lead to injury when increasing mileage or training for events. I still take a detailed history and provide rehabilitative advice and exercises however the majority of conditions I see for massage are less complex in nature than those requiring physiotherapy, allowing the majority of the session to be spent hands on.

Sports Massage is a treatment to the soft tissues of the body including muscles and tendons, usually directly on the skin using a lotion. All lotion used is hypoallergenic. The difference between this and general massage is the specific assessment and a slightly deeper and more targeted application of the massage itself.

Do I have to be an athlete?

You don’t have to be an athlete to benefit from sports massage or physio, it’s suitable for everyday postural muscle tightness or as part of overall personal wellbeing.

When is it available & how much does it cost?

I have varied availability during the day Monday and Friday and weekday evenings. Please message me for availability.

Pilates

As a physiotherapist, I teach Pilates based on the Australian Physiotherapy and Pilates Institute with whom I have trained and completed  my Level 3 certificate.

Physiotherapy modified Pilates is a form of dynamic stabilisation retraining that conditions the body from the central core muscles to increase smooth and optimal movement and is designed to be safe and suitable for people who have had pain or injury.

The traditional Pilates exercises are broken down into clearly defined levels to ensure a standard and gradual progression towards normal functional movement that is guided by physiotherapy clinical reasoning and experience.

Classes will be a maximum of 8 to allow individual attention. We generally start with a standing warm up to prepare for the class and increase flexibility and function and a large part of the class is performed in lying on mats (provided). The teaching is based on the following Principles:

  • Breathing

  • Concentration

  • Control

  • Centering

  • Precision

  • Flow

  • Integrated Isolation

  • Routine

All new participants are required to complete a full screening form and in the case of pain or injury a 1:1 physical assessment before the first class. If you think this applies to you please just get in touch to chat it through

Tuesdays @ Brave Move

Beginners 6:30-7:30

Massage and Pilates for well-being

Corporate well-being is now regarded as an integral part of managing workforce health, with the aim of increasing well-being and productivity of staff as well as taking a proactive approach to reducing work related injuries and sickness. Work related musculoskeletal disorders are thought to account for 40% of sickness absence in the UK         (Chartered Society of Physiotherapy) and research suggests that for each unit of money spent on wellbeing there is a return on investment of 2 to 3 times by reducing medical costs and absenteeism (Harvard Business Review).

What can I can offer?

Massage

Massage can promote improved postural awareness and movement and decreased muscle tightness of the muscles commonly involved in work related pain. It can also lower stress levels, increase "feel good" hormones and employees often report improved mood and productivity.

  • Chair Massage £50 60 minutes (4 x 15 minute slots)

15 minute chair based massage of the neck, back and arms. Done over the top of work clothes with no oils.

  • Sports/Holistic massage £50 60 minutes/£30 30 minutes

60 minute (full body) and 30 minute (back, neck, shoulders or back and legs) sports or holistic massage to really relax tight muscles and give an enhanced feelgood factor. Treatment is provided on a massage couch and it is generally given on bare skin using hypoallergenic lotion (couch and towels provided).

Exercise classes

  • Physiotherapy Led Pilates £80 60 minutes/ £60 45 minutes

45 to 60 minute Physiotherapy Pilates classes designed to fit into a lunch break or straight after work. The focus is on improving mobility, posture, full body and core conditioning. Please see "About Pilates" section for detailed class content. All mats and equipment provided. Maximum 12 in a class.

TESTIMONIAL
"Fliss has been so helpful to me - she diagnosed my problems quickly and is helping me recover and regain strength. She also made me feel really comfortable and at ease. I can't thank her enough for her continued support"
"Fliss is absolutely great. Once she figured out what was going on with my shoulder, she drew up a detailed recovery plan, and explained everything so I could then really take control of my recovery. On my second session, she reviewed the exercises and tweaked them, so I continued to recover/progress"
